GARAGE STUDIO
This is a hands-on training programme for filmmakers who are invited to attend the Berlinale Talent Campus. To be considered for this project, complete the online application to the Berlinale Talent Campus here. The application deadline is October 15, 2007.
The Garage Studio is the youngest of the hands-on training programmes offered during the Berlinale Talent Campus. This programme takes participants from all fields of work into uncharted cinematic territory. International teams enter the Garage Studio for a day of fast and furious digital production. They have one day to shoot, edit and package a digital short film for internet release the very same night.
The Garage Studio is a do-it-yourself project from head to toe that incorporates an exciting virtual feature - The Online Garage Studio. The internet is quickly becoming the most open platform for new film media and poses interesting challenges to the film industry. The Online Garage Studio was developed to post film ideas, enable directors to choose their team members from a pool of Campus participants (who come from the areas of acting, directing, editing, cinematography, visual art), and provide everyone with an online space to communicate and work together on pre-production.
Participants find everything they need to shoot, edit and distribute their ‘Garage Flicks’—the digitally produced and released short film—in one physical and virtual location. The Garage houses a blue screen, a furnished set, props and equipment customized to the requirements of each project (within certain technical and crew size limits, see application). Participants are guided through the experience by a renowned director.
If you wish to apply for the Garage Studio, you must first apply to the Berlinale Talent Campus as an actor, cinematographer, director, screenwriter, editor, or visual artist. You can either submit an original short film idea or apply to be on the creative team and contribute to the realisation of a short film idea. During the application process, you will be guided to the Garage Studio application. There, you will see detailed guidelines on what materials to submit and the technical specifications of your application.
