Fady Hadid is an M.F.A. candidate in Film Production at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. Born and raised in Baghdad, Iraq, Fady explored different forms of visual arts like photography, graBorn and raised in Baghdad, Iraq, Fady Hadid explored different forms of visual arts from graphic design to animation to photography, until eventually he discovered his true passion for filmmaking a year before the war and invasion of 2003. He stayed in his hometown, challenging two death threats, car bombs and IEDs, to earn his Bachelor’s degree in Information and Communication Engineering from the University of Baghdad. He then moved to Los Angeles, Calif., to pursue his M.F.A. degree in Film Production at the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts.
Prior to coming to America, Fady held key positions in producing, cinematography and sound design on several award-winning projects like Hometown Baghdad, Underexposure and Iraq, My Country. He was nominated for Best Sound in Non-Fiction at the 2006 Australian Film Institute Awards, and won the 2007 Premio Rossellini Award and three 2008 Webby Film and Video Awards.
Hometown Baghdad was broadcast as a feature-length documentary on the Sundance Channel as well as National Geographic International. Fady’s work as the producer of Hometown Baghdad has been covered by many of the major media outlets around the world, including CNN, BBC, ABC News, NBC, Fox News, NPR, Los Angeles Times, Le Monde, The Guardian, The Times of London and Newsweek.
Fady has also spoken about his experience as a young filmmaker in a war-torn country at film and art venues in Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York, as well as Stanford University, Concordia University and the University of Southern California. |
