14.02.2008 - Garage Studio Proudly Presents: Four Flicks For Clicks

Four short digital films – On Time, Eddi, It Could Happen to You and The String Puppet – have been produced in the Garage Studio on four days of the Campus solely for online ­stream­-ing. We celebrate the fast-track production of these flicks with an official screening on the big screen. To follow is a discussion with Talent directors of the Garage Studio on their, create their films – from shooting to editing and uploading – all in one day, and their exploration of the free world of film production for the internet proficient. Talent mentors Jay Anania, Garin Rianto Nugroho, M Dot Strange and Grahame Weinbren will discuss what it means to serve the digital production chain from casting to shooting and distribution on a ­completely independent level. They will ­expand on the various possi­bilities­ the medium offers and how one can capitalise on them.

In this session leading online pioneers will discuss and demonstrate a range of new services and tools available to filmmakers to help them build audiences, distribute their work and even finance their films. What should you consider before you take the DIY plunge? What are the important factors that indies should consider before choosing a service? How will the role of the distributor transform as filmmakers build direct connections to audiences? How will audiences play a collaborative role in film production and distribution?

For one hundred years of cinema, film stories have been restricted by running times, distribution formats and platforms. Technology is now impacting on the art and craft of storytelling. Now that audiences are engaging with media across multiple platforms and are moving from a passive viewing experience to active collaboration, how does the art of storytelling change? How does one develop stories and characters that can travel across screens and devices? Experts in cross-media and interactive / immersive storytelling will describe how to build story worlds that span across multiple platforms and engage audiences in powerful new ways.

17.02.2010 - Extending Scripts

Enabling filmmakers to connect with key digital innovators and helping them make the transition to a cross-media digital age, this panel presents cross-media experts – Alexandre Brachet, director of Upian (France), Martin Ericsson, creative director of The company P (Sweden) and Liz Rosenthal, managing director of Power to the Pixel (UK) – who will inform and inspire screenwriters participating in the Doc & Script Station to develop new models of storytelling. They will encourage and challenge participants to consider cross media project development for their current or future projects. As direct, practical examples relevant to Talents of the Doc & Script Station, the experts will use a number of projects developed at the hands-on training as examples for developing projects aimed at multiple platforms, which also open up new forms of creativity, finance and distribution.
