Current Edition / 2010 / "Straight to Cinema"
The BERLIN TODAY AWARD 2010 looked for the five best short film concepts based on the theme "Straight To Cinema".
Passion for cinema is still alive and kicking. Filmmakers around the world dream of presenting their movies on the big screen. Even in our increasingly digital times, and cinema culture undergoing fundamental changes, the cinema remains a unique place within the public domain - and one of shared experience. Without the cinema, the world of film would not be the same.
The motto of the BERLIN TODAY AWARD 2010 encourages filmmakers to be inspired by the power of cinema and to create a short film that is made for the big screen - with a cinema audience in mind. There are no restrictions on story, location, format or genre.
Keep it simple, make it grand!

Next Edition / 2011 / "You Are Leaving The Familiar Sector"
15 projects have been selected for the first round of the Berlin Today Award 2011 competition. The directors – coming from Egypt, Irsael, Belgium, Bulgaria, Spain, Colombia, Romania, UK, Ireland, South Africa, Italy and Bolivia- are invited to the Berlinale Talent Campus to pitch their projects to a selected audience of production companies from Berlin-Brandenburg.
Good luck to all!Since its invention, cinema has helped us to imagine what our lives could be like and how the world could look. Film offers an extraordinary glimpse into a world you've never seen, never dreamt of, or never dared to enter. Crossing between sectors in a wall-dominated Berlin used to be an experience where everything could change in the space of a few hundred metres. How do you imagine a world beyond what you've known, and what do you see when you leave the place you know best?
The motto of the BERLIN TODAY AWARD 2011 encourages filmmakers to envision a world beyond the familiar. There are no restrictions on story, location or genre.
